Privacy

WYARN is a small startup built by people tired of paywalls around communicating with and finding like-minded people. We want a simpler way for adults to meet nearby, with free browsing and messaging, real proximity ordering and no paid boosts. Ads and optional donations help support the project.

Effective October 8, 2026. This page describes the current early release.

What we collect and why

We store your account identifier, authentication information, profile name, stated age, gender, interests, bio, one daily selfie, private messages, blocks, reports and approximate account activity. We use these to operate accounts, discovery, conversations, retention and abuse controls. Username accounts do not require your real email or phone. If you use Google, Google and Supabase handle sign-in and we receive account information such as your Google email and identifier. Google and username sign-in are separate accounts.

Your photo and profile

A saved profile and a current camera selfie are required to browse members and send messages. When you choose to join Nearby, participating members can see your photo, profile details, approximate distance, username when available and an approximate last-active label. A selfie does not verify identity, age or liveness. We do not currently run automated photo-content checks or face recognition.

Location

Nearby location sharing is optional. Your browser obtains location only when you choose to share. WYARN rounds latitude and longitude to two decimal places before saving your Nearby area. This is approximate, but can still reveal a small area or allow someone to infer where you are. Other members see approximate distance, not those stored coordinates. You can hide your area in Nearby.

Sharing location in chat is separate: after a warning, you request your location, preview it and choose Send. Exact coordinates are then saved as a private message to that person. A map link opens Google Maps only when clicked. Revoking the message removes its coordinates from the live conversation, but cannot undo someone viewing, copying or screenshotting them.

How long data stays

Scheduled cleanup can be delayed by outages. These time limits apply to WYARN’s live database, not to another person's saved copies or infrastructure logs and existing backups.

Delete your account and control messages

In My profile, choose Delete my account, read the warning and type DELETE to confirm. This permanently removes your account and linked profile, photo, area, blocks, reports and conversations from the live database. Conversations involving you disappear for the other participant too. It cannot be undone and does not delete your Google account. Clearing a chat for yourself hides it from your view; sender message deletion removes that message’s content for both participants. Existing copies outside WYARN remain outside our control.

Ads, browser storage and third parties

Ads are on by default for signed-in adults and are clearly labelled. JuicyAds receives your IP address and browser information when its banner loads and may use limited technical storage for security and fraud prevention. Its current cookie policy states that publisher-site ads do not use cookies for behavioral profiling or cross-site tracking. Advertiser destinations have their own practices. Its ads and destinations can be adult-oriented; we select non-nude banner settings, but cannot guarantee every advertiser or destination. Advertisers do not receive your WYARN profile, selfie, messages or coordinates through our banner integration. Third-party tracking may qualify as sharing under applicable privacy laws.

Use Turn off ads in the app, or the button below, to stop future ad-banner requests on this browser. This does not withdraw information already received by the ad provider or clear its cookies. The choice does not follow you across browsers or devices. Browser privacy settings can also restrict third-party cookies. JuicyAds privacy information.

Browser storage keeps your sign-in session, preferences and a short-lived aggregate user-count cache. Supabase provides authentication and database services; Cloudflare hosts and delivers the website. These providers process technical connection data such as IP addresses and service logs, including outside your home region. Venmo, wallet services and Google Maps receive information when you choose to use their links; WYARN does not process card payments.

Privacy requests and contact

Contact support.wyarn@protonmail.com to ask about access, correction, deletion or other privacy rights available where you live. Edit profile details in My profile, turn off ads using the controls above, or delete the account yourself. We may need to verify account ownership without asking for your password. Support is checked occasionally, not continuously. Do not send passwords, private wallet keys or unnecessary sensitive documents.

We will update this page when our practices change. Material changes will be communicated in the app.

Worldwide discovery

While WYARN grows, discovery has no distance limit. Members who share their area and have a current selfie can appear to signed-in members worldwide, ordered closest to furthest using rounded areas. Gender and interest filters still apply. Hidden, blocked, restricted and expired profiles stay out of discovery.
