FAQ

WYARN is a small startup built by people tired of paywalls around communicating with and finding like-minded people. We want a simpler way for adults to meet nearby, with free browsing and messaging, real proximity ordering and no paid boosts. Ads and optional donations help support the project.

Is WYARN free?

Yes. Browsing, filters and texting are free. No paid boosts change proximity ordering. Labelled ads and optional donations support the project. You can turn ads off on your browser.

What do I need to get started?

An account through username/password or Google, a saved profile and a current camera selfie. Google is optional; username accounts need no real email or phone, but have no password recovery. Share a rounded area to browse Nearby. Messages require a fresh selfie.

Why a new selfie every day?

It keeps profiles current and can discourage some fake accounts. Each selfie expires after 24 hours. It does not prove identity, age or that someone is safe; automated photo checks are not currently enabled.

How do reports work?

Reports are saved. A qualifying report shows the account owner a warning. Three qualifying reports from different accounts within seven days automatically hide the profile from Nearby and username discovery and mute new outgoing messages. Repeating a report from the same account does not add another vote.

To count toward this threshold, the reporter must have an account at least 24 hours old, a current selfie and either a recent conversation with that member or current discovery eligibility. Restricted reporters do not add votes. All submitted reports are still saved, even when they do not count toward automatic restrictions.

Does reporting delete an account?

No. Reports are allegations, not verified findings. A restriction keeps the account and lets its owner read existing chats, block people, appeal or delete the account themselves. The restriction does not automatically expire. Appeals go to support.wyarn@protonmail.com; support is checked occasionally, so a prompt response is not guaranteed. Do not file false or coordinated reports.

Is someone reviewing every report?

No. We are a small early-stage project without continuously staffed moderation. Automated safeguards have limits. Block unwanted contact and use local emergency services for immediate danger.

How long are messages and accounts kept?

Messages expire after 30 days. Accounts and linked data are deleted after 30 days without signed-in activity. Background message checks do not reset that timer. You can leave immediately with Delete my account in My profile.

What happens when I delete my account?

Your account and linked profile, selfie, saved area, blocks, reports and conversations are permanently removed from WYARN’s live database. Conversations involving you disappear for the other participant too. There is no undo. Saved copies, provider logs and existing backups are outside that immediate deletion. Your Google account is unaffected.

Can someone see my exact location?

Nearby shows approximate distance from a rounded area. Exact coordinates are only sent in a chat when you choose Share location, obtain a preview and confirm Send. Revoking the message cannot undo copies.

Why is the user count different from people nearby?

The footer counts current registered accounts, including unfinished profiles. Nearby shows eligible members with fresh selfies and shared areas within the search range, subject to filters and blocks. Deleted accounts leave the total.

How do I report a bug?

Email support.wyarn@protonmail.com with what happened and your browser/device. Do not include passwords or private chat contents unless needed and appropriate.

Worldwide discovery

While WYARN grows, discovery has no distance limit. Members who share their area and have a current selfie can appear to signed-in members worldwide, ordered closest to furthest using rounded areas. Gender and interest filters still apply. Hidden, blocked, restricted and expired profiles stay out of discovery.
